First semester in college

If I could describe this semester in one word. Flexibility.

Moving to a new school is difficult, talk of adapting to a whole new curriculum in a different country.

In all honesty, this semester was a crazy level 4 rollercoaster.

I started all over again and this was both exciting and scary.

Spiritual life

Usually when I make plans about the future I never plan for my spiritual life, I often just let it play out, so  coming to college wasn't any  different. I planned what academic courses I would take and some of the clubs and activities I hoped to join, but  church, I didnt even think about it. I tried a couple of churches at the beginning until I finally found one I continued going to. I also went to a few weekly bible study groups and found one I am inclined to. Solid ground. We meet every Thursday, we have dinner together, sing hymns and have bible study sharing. This group is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I read my Bible consistently this semester like never before, I prayed alone and with other believers more. I also sang a lot of hymns which made me so happy. God has really been gracious to me and am learning to call on the name of the Lord in every situation. I am extremely grateful for the people who God has placed in my life to help strengthen my faith. I would have never been able to do it on my own. I am standing on the shoulders of those who prayed for me and sung with me.

Academics

I enrolled in six courses at the begining. Business calculus, Microeconomics, American federal government, Understanding dance, Get way to belonging in Oklahoma and UCOL foundations class. I later dropped the foundations class because I thought I would learn about the school on my own as the class was designed to help me get to know campus and the resources available. So I was down to 5 courses, 15 credit hours. The workload was not too much and all the courses did not have difficult content except I struggled with math as I did not practice as much as I needed to at the beginning of the semester. When I noticed that I was struggling, I started going to the math center to get help and I also went to office hours. By the end of the semester I started feeling more confident at math and pulled  my grade up. Overall, the class I enjoyed the most was the American federal government. I enjoyed learning about the foundation of American politics and the founders who established the constitution of this nation and what it took to bring the 50 states together.

Social life

Once again I have been challenged to step out of my comfort zone and make some good friendships. I take time to make friends as I am very particular about the people I hope to be love and be loved by. I have made some good friendships. I am completely grateful for all my new friends and I hope that we can continue to grow together throughout our time here at OU and even when time wills that we go apart, I hope and pray that all may go well with you and that life may bring you treasures always.

Work

I have been working under OU food and services at Basic Knead which is a pizza restaurant, I enjoy the job and I have acquired some good skills. Making pizza, baking  pasta and offering good customer service. When I first started, 3 weeks into college, most of my shifts were evening shifts. The night shifts were very exhausting as I only got back home at 12:00am. It was also scary for me to walk back home and am super grateful to my friend who walked me home on all my night shifts- thank you so much for this act of kindness, I will always appreciate and remember this. I later changed my evening shifts to morning.  I now worked before my classes, on some days I would be so tired in class and when I got back home at around 6pm, I would just sleep. I maintained these shifst with a few changes along the way till the end of the semester.

Campus involvement

I am a member of the MUN club, debate, African Women's league, Kindred and I recently co-founded the Model African Union. I am a consistent member of the MUN club and I have learned a lot of things so far. Model African Union is a newborn and I hope we can grow as a group and achieve the goals of the club starting next year. As for Debate, African Women's league, and Kindred, I hope to be a more consistent and active member.

It was an amazing first year first semester. I had to be flexible in all aspects in order for me to make adjustments and to find my footing. God's goodness and mercy carried me through. Friends loved and cared for me and helped me. My family kept in touch and supported me. My life couch Ms Chulu spoke words that guided me. The Gama family showered me with love and care in ways that gave me hope and encouraged me to continue having faith, hope and joy. I am standing on the shoulders of many. Thank you so much to everyone who continues to pray for me, to care for me, to support me and to cheer me through my journey. May the good Lord bless you all
