Woman. Black. African
I have been moving in circles. Failing to pick what fight I am to choose.
As a black person, I want to stand up for my people and fight for our dignity.
To be honest, issues of race still confuse me.
I just don't understand how humans have managed to classify themselves from the top to the bottom.
In my mind everyone is equal.
And I am probably saying this because I am black.
Because society does not give me any choice.
But I am defining my own place in the world.
I will not allow anyone to look down on me because of my skin.
I will not even allow myself to look down on me.
For what reason should I?
I am beautifully and wonderfully made.
Everything about me was made with so much accuracy and precision.
My skin was knitted together accurately so,
I won’t even go down the route of talking about my precious self.
No one will make me believe that I am inferior or that someone else is superior to me.
The world can continue to play by these rules.
I will define my own.
This land I step on,
We found it.
This soil under my feet
We found it
In fact, it is older than us
The rivers we admire,
They have always been here
And no one deems then inferior or not,
That’s beside the point
If you think my black skin is dirty
Then that’s your problem
Deal with it
If you think that because my skin is black then am lazy,
Go and deal with it yourself
Those are your problems
If you come closer to me you might learn a million things about who I am as an individual, as a black, woman and as an African .
But what I will not do is sit here and try to validate my value to you.. That's not my job.
What I won’t take though is any racist comment, should I identify it.
Any mistreatment, you will rub me the wrong way, and am not one to keep quiet when I see trouble
I don't allow misfortune to come to me and let it be.
Whether from my reaction you will conclude that I am aggressive or not and confirm your stereotype of an “Angry” black woman, that’s your problem. I will only be standing up for myself and I will not let you toil me around, am not one to be stepped on no matter the occasion, space, and time.
You can look at me and laugh because in your head it makes you feel better about yourself.
Go and deal with those insecurities and find your own value which does not depend on you looking down on me.
You move away when I come and sit next to you.
Only you know why. I make you feel uncomfortable huh. Why?. This should be the question you ponder. Are you intimidated by my stature and my whole self? because I am not intimidated by you.
I hope you find Freedom from your hate
Sending you Peace and Love
